Program Description
Free knitting lessons at the library! Melissa has been knitting for over 20 years and has extensive experience from when she used to work at a local yarn shop. She'd like to share her knowledge with the community.
School is almost back in session. In 2 weeks, you'll be getting out your boots, your plaids, and planning family portraits in a field of pumpkins. Wouldn't you like to point to one of those pictures and say "I made that!" No, not your kids! That gorgeous scarf around your neck! Your gorgeous slouchy tossle cap! We can get you started!
THIS WILL BE A 2-SESSION CLASS!
Things you'll learn:
Session 1:
Casting-On
Working "in the round"
Knit Stitch
Session 2:
Purl Stitch
Alternating between knitting and purling
Binding Off
We'll also talk about the qualities of yarn, good free projects and where to find them. How to tell if a pattern will be a good one to follow or not.
Here's the catch: PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN SUPPLIES
-1 Size 8 or size 9 CIRCULAR knitting needle, 16" or 24" (measurements will be listed on the package) Found at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn (if it's still there.) Click here for link. to buy online. Or visit a local yarn store (see below).
-Ball of "worsted weight" or "Size 4" yarn in a BRIGHT or LIGHT color - Dark colors are really hard to see when you're learning. Recommend wool or wool blend yarn or acrylic. No cotton (trust me. it absorbs all the sweat from your hands and then becomes very hard to knit with). Can be found at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn (if it's still there) Click here for link to buy online. Or visit a local yarn store (see below).
We will have yarn and needles available if you forget or aren't ready to invest, but we can't let them leave the library, so you won't be able to take your project home to work on it.
I highly recommend you take a trip to a local yarn store if you can. You'll get a lot of advice and expertise and get excellent quality products to learn with.
